“…he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:” Deuteronomy 17:18b-19

As God gave His people instruction concerning a king, he made it clear that as soon as the king took the throne he was to make his own personal copy of God’s word, have it with him, and he was to make it a habit for life to read it daily. In doing this the king would LEARN TO FEAR the Lord his God. So then, if we, today, desire to learn to fear God we too must make it our habit to read God’s Word daily!

Read God’s Word Daily!

In Deuteronomy 8:3, God said: “…man doth not live by bread only, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live…”

Are there any words that God has spoken that are of no value to our soul? In this verse God says that EVERY word is for man to live by.

Read EVERY Word!

“For all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” II Timothy 3:16-17

God says in this verse that all Scripture is both: #1 inspired by God and #2 profitable. How much of the Holy Scriptures are inspired by God? All! How much of the Holy Scriptures are profitable for us? All! How much of the Holy Scriptures then should we read? All!

Read ALL the Scriptures!

Since it is written that:

  • all Scripture is given by inspiration of God,
  • that every word is potential food for our soul
  • that we are commanded to read it all the days of our life

so then let’s seek to read the entire Scriptures all the days of our lives!

In light of the above statements, and believing these things to be true, we offer the following suggestions in hopes that they would be helpful to the reader:

  • Memorize Deuteronomy 17:19; Deuteronomy 8:3; 2Timothy 3:16-17
  • Find a suitable Reading Plan (Proverbs 4:26)
  • Have a consistent, regular time scheduled to read
  • Try to find a regular time, each week, to read extra, or to catch up (Proverbs 22:3)
